I Don’t Mind Waiting – Juanita Bynum: It was released in 2006. Bynum reminds the audience that they should wait for the Lord patiently. This triple-CD compilation helped spark a wider interest in artists who never achieved any great fame on the circuit. Gathering a comprehensive selection of often very elemental American gospel recordings, this is a stunning companion piece to A Stranger I May Be (see below). Recorded by Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins during their 1959 US field recording trip, this is deep roots gospel. Lomax, a folk purist, decried how gospel was developing, and so recorded choirs in rural communities in an attempt to preserve the music. The performances captured here are stunning – gospel as African-American praise music, full of great yearning. Reissued on CD by Man in the Moon in 2018.
But what if the parable was not about salvation but about the gospel? The workers in the parable likely worked and lived day to day, as evidenced by the fact that the owner continually found unemployed workers throughout the day. The one work day depicted in the parable can be interpreted to culminate in death and salvation or to mark the beginning of a new, secure life in Christ; both interpretations work. The first workers were lucky – they found work quickly, with a man who promised them the standard wage for common laborers. On the other hand, imagine what it would be like to be one of the last workers, having fruitlessly waited anxiously all day for some work so that you could feed your family. Then, a landowner offers you work and you go, glad to have at least a chance to earn some money.
What a wonderful way to start your day. Ah, yes, the weekend is finally here. Friday and Saturday came and went, and inevitably, Sunday morning rolls around. If you’re like most Catholics, the thought of going to church is somewhere in your mind – even if it’s waaayy far back there. You know you should go, that’s what a good Catholic would do. You want to be a good Catholic, you really do. But this is your day off, and you’re tired. And let’s be honest – the snooze button seems a lot more appealing.
Here I am To Worship – Hillsong Worship This is one of Hillsong’s favorite gospel songs of all time. It was released in 2003 and has remained among the top gospel music in the industry. The song’s primary theme is worshiping the Lord. The lyrics vividly describe why the Lord deserves all the glory. Shackles (Praise You) – Mary Mary: Since it was released in 2000, this song has not lost its popularity. It was composed by Erica Campbell and Trecina Atkins-Campbell, also known as Mary Mary. The song talks about praising the Lord for his deeds. Its popularity may have been impacted by the combination of different genres in this song. The chorus has R&B sounds while the rest of the song uses rhythmical Hip-hop sounds. Discover additional info at https://gospeljingle.com/.
