The Company is already seeing initial signs of recovery in its airport asset the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), where January-February traffic showed a 170% improvement from the same period in 2021, data from the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) show. “The International Air Transport Association (IATA) predicts that global air travel will be 80-90% of its pre-pandemic levels this year and next, with prospects of exceeding 2019 figures by 2024. That being said, this revenge travel should present a huge upside to MCIA, which currently operates at 20-30% of pre-COVID levels,” noted Louie Ferrer, Megawide’s Executive Director for Infrastructure Development and GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation’s (GMCAC’s) President.

Among these are the construction of 10,000 public classrooms under Department of Education’s PPP for School Infrastructure Project, the development of the now internationally-acclaimed Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the delivery of the first-of-its-kind Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange, and the construction of the Clark International Airport’s new passenger terminal building, which was completed ahead of schedule, amid the pandemic.

NAIA is presently under pressure to serve 45 million passengers per year. It has exceeded its design capacity of 31 million passengers per year. This has resulted to numerous flight delays, congested passenger terminals, and exasperated passengers. We will gradually expand NAIA’s capacity to accommodate 65 million passengers per year. To decongest the four terminals, we will increase capacity in both airside and landside facilities, facilitate faster movement between terminals, and improve passenger experience and comfort. Megawide is a Filipino construction company with extensive experience in building infrastructure projects such as the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, as well as the new passenger terminal in Clark International Airport.
